In 1995, a movie entitled Mortal Kombat
was released. It was based on a popular electronic game
of the same name. The premise of the movie, according
to an online reference source, is similar to the game
because both present an ongoing battle between Earthrealm
and Outworld. The online movie review said,
"once a generation, there is an ancient tournament
known as Mortal Kombat, which was designed
by the Elder gods for the main purpose to save Earthrealm
from the evil and dark forces of Outworld."
Whichever side loses the Mortal Kombat suffers
eternal damnation.
Winning a tournament or suffering eternal
damnation? Win the battle or lose the fight? Sounds
like life today. Suffering produces tests and trials,
and humans are either victorious or defeated.
In the Old Testament, a man named Job
faced several trials. In fact, Satan asked permission
from God to challenge him with trials, and God allowed
Job to be tested. In the end, and after severe suffering,
Job found God to be good, sovereign and faithful.
